Malak Mattar, a young Palestinian artist from Gaza, is known for her vibrant and expressive paintings depicting Palestinian lives. She began painting at the age of 13 during the 2014 Gaza war as a way to cope with the trauma and destruction. Today at 25 years old, her art often has themes of femininity, resilience, and hope, serving as a powerful voice for Palestinians, particularly women, living under occupation, conflict, and fear. Her work has gained international recognition, demonstrating the strength and spirit of the community, and providing a window into the human cost of the ongoing war in Gaza. Her art has come to symbolize resistance and calls for peace during times of conflict and war, such as the current war in Gaza.
