Greta Thunberg
Greta Thunberg, the internationally-renowned Swedish activist, has spent the past several years expanding her advocacy from climate action to global justice, with a special focus on Gaza. Best known as the founder of Fridays for Future and a visible leader against climate change, Greta’s influence has grown far beyond her early climate strikes. In recent years, she’s become a powerful voice for Palestinian rights, using her global platform to urge for humanitarian aid and an end to violence in Gaza.
In 2023, Greta began to regularly speak out against the siege and attacks in Gaza, connecting the struggles for environmental justice and human rights. Her posts calling for ceasefire and freedom of movement not only rallied international attention but also drew controversy and sparked bans from official Israeli education resources. Most recently, in 2025 Greta joined the Global Sumud Flotilla, working alongside activists to bring aid to Gaza, facing interception—and subsequent detention—by Israeli authorities in early October. While in custody, Greta reportedly endured harsh conditions, including mistreatment and poor sanitary circumstances, remaining steadfast with fellow detainees and refusing expedited deportation.
Greta’s work in Gaza is inseparable from her legacy in climate activism. Through speeches, community action, and direct humanitarian work, she continues to demonstrate that the fight for a livable planet must include fighting for justice, peace, and dignity. Her courage in standing up for Gaza, even at great personal risk, inspires millions to recognize the interconnectedness of environmental and human rights.
